₦30m Donation Rejected by Pastor Enenche During Church Service Visit

In a rare move that has sparked public debate, the Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr. Paul Enenche, has rejected a ₦30 million donation reportedly offered by Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, during a recent worship service.

The rejection occurred during a special Sunday service at the church’s Abuja headquarters, where the governor was a guest. According to sources present, Governor Idris had pledged the ₦30 million as part of a thanksgiving offering, but the pastor respectfully declined the donation, citing principles of stewardship and the church’s commitment to transparency.

“We appreciate every gift made to the work of God, but we are guided by spiritual discernment and ethical standards. Not every money is ours to take,” Pastor Enenche reportedly said during the service.

The development quickly gained traction on social media, with many praising the pastor for his stand, while others questioned the motive behind rejecting the funds, particularly given the economic pressures facing churches and charitable organizations.

Church officials have since confirmed the incident, stating that the decision was not politically motivated but based on the church’s internal guidelines for accepting large gifts—especially from public officials.

“The church seeks to avoid any perception of undue political influence or expectation tied to financial contributions,” a Dunamis spokesperson told reporters.

Governor Idris, through his media aide, acknowledged the pastor’s decision and said he holds the church leadership in high regard. “We respect the decision of the church and remain committed to supporting communities in other meaningful ways,” the statement read.

This event comes amid growing scrutiny over the relationship between religious institutions and political figures in Nigeria. Civil society groups have often raised concerns about donations from public officials, questioning whether such acts are philanthropic or politically calculated.

The church, meanwhile, continues with its outreach and charity programs, funded through tithes, offerings, and vetted contributions from its members and partners.
