Bank of Industry CEO Honored with African Banking Leadership Award in New York

In a momentous occasion at the 9th International Forum on African-Caribbean Leadership (IFAL), held on the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 21, 2023, Mr. Olukayode Pitan, the Chief Executive of Nigeria’s Bank of Industry (BoI), was presented with the Special African Banking Leadership Commendation Award. The accolade recognizes Mr. Pitan’s outstanding contributions to the leadership and advancement of Nigeria’s industrial sector. Over the course of his illustrious 30-year career, Mr. Pitan, as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Industry, has garnered substantial expertise across diverse financial services domains, including banking and capital markets, while diligently fulfilling the institution’s mandate.

Under his visionary leadership, the Bank of Industry has brought about a significant transformation in Nigeria’s industrial landscape by providing accessible, long-term financing and counter-cyclical loans across a wide spectrum of sectors within the Nigerian economy.

Over the past five years, Mr. Pitan has been a driving force behind pioneering and innovative financial transactions in both the Nigerian capital market and the international financial arena, all aimed at furthering Nigeria’s economic development.

To date, Mr. Pitan has spearheaded successful fundraising efforts, raising approximately $5 billion from the international market through syndications and the bond market in the last four years alone. Under his guidance, the Bank has consistently championed financial inclusion, playing a pivotal role in supporting the expansion of over 3 million enterprises, resulting in the creation of more than 7 million jobs for the Nigerian populace.
