Club 582, an organization representing professionals from Kogi State, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun to probe the persistent and senseless killings and violent intimidation in Kogi East. In response to the recent violence in Anyigba, the club expressed concern about the situation and urged the authorities to address the issue.
In a press statement, Club 582 President Samuel Onekutu stated, “We are worried that despite the deployment of armed troops to the state for ‘Operation Safe Conduct,’ Anyigba, the social and commercial headquarters of Igala land on Tuesday witnessed another show of senseless violence.”
The club acknowledged the federal government’s commitment to peace and security during the weekend elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states. However, it emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the ongoing violence in Kogi East.
“We have no cause to doubt the sincerity of the government in its efforts to end the senseless killings orchestrated by political groups in the state,” Onekutu added. The organization urged assurance of the security of lives and property during the election and beyond, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful environment for the contribution to the rapid growth of the national economy.
