The Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has granted bail to lawyer and human rights activist, Dele Farotimi, in the sum of N50 million. The bail requires a surety of equal value, with the surety needing to provide landed property as collateral.
The development was shared by Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, through his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday. Sowore confirmed that Farotimi had successfully crossed the first hurdle, with the case adjourned to January 29, 2025, for further proceedings.
Farotimi is facing a defamation lawsuit filed by Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. The case has garnered significant public attention, particularly due to Farotimi’s role as a vocal activist and lawyer.
