Customs Seized 397 Vehicles Worth N5.64bn in 2024 – CGC

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the seizure of 397 vehicles valued at N5.64 billion in 2024 as part of its continued efforts to enforce import regulations and safeguard government revenue. This was revealed by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, during a press briefing in Abuja.

Adeniyi emphasized that the NCS not only seized vehicles but also took action against other restricted items, including 3,785 bales of textiles worth N945 million, 183,527 bags of rice, and other consumer goods.

These measures are in line with the NCS’s role in protecting local industries and supporting Nigeria’s economic diversification efforts.

Adeniyi also shared the success of Operation Whirlwind, a strategic security operation aimed at curbing the illegal diversion of petroleum products. The operation led to the confiscation of over 1.7 million litres of petrol being smuggled to neighbouring countries.

Additionally, 55 suspects were arrested in connection with these illegal activities and are under investigation.

Adeniyi stressed that the NCS is committed to strengthening its enforcement capabilities and is integrating advanced technologies to enhance its operations.

This approach aims to address emerging threats in the trade sector while ensuring that the service remains effective in its mission.

The NCS’s operations in 2024 highlight its vital role in securing Nigeria’s borders and ensuring the proper enforcement of trade regulations. With enhanced tools and stronger efforts, the service is poised to meet future challenges while facilitating legitimate trade.
