
A tragic building collapse in Arowojobe Estate, Maryland, Lagos, has resulted in the untimely deaths of three construction workers. The incident occurred early Thursday morning when a three-story building under construction collapsed.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) were immediately dispatched to the scene following a distress call received at approximately 3:49 AM. Upon arrival, rescue teams were confronted with the devastating aftermath of the collapse.
A comprehensive search and rescue operation was launched to locate and extricate victims trapped within the rubble. Sadly, three construction workers were found lifeless at the scene. Despite the challenging conditions, rescue workers successfully rescued two injured individuals who were promptly transported to a medical facility for treatment.
The Lagos State Fire Service collaborated with LASEMA to navigate the perilous conditions and safely extract the trapped victims. The State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit has been notified to handle the recovery of the deceased.
LASEMA’s heavy equipment played a crucial role in the rescue efforts, aiding in the removal of debris and accessing difficult-to-reach areas. The Nigeria Police were also present to maintain order and support the rescue operation.
The cause of the building collapse is currently under investigation. This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for stricter building regulations and enhanced safety measures within the construction industry in Lagos to prevent such occurrences in the future.
