
Equity trading on the Nigerian Exchange reached a total of N10.82 trillion in 2024, marking significant growth over the past three years. Local investors were the driving force behind this milestone, with domestic investors contributing 84.02% of the total market transactions, equivalent to N4.91 trillion.
Foreign investors accounted for 15.98% of market activity in 2024, representing N785.28 billion in transactions.
The year recorded its highest monthly transaction in January 2024, with N651.52 billion traded. Domestic investors dominated the period, contributing N598.41 billion, or 91.85% of the monthly total. By November 2024, domestic investors added N401.40 billion, with retail investors accounting for N195.38 billion, while institutional investors contributed N206.02 billion.

In comparison, equity trading in 2023 stood at N3.58 trillion, with domestic investors contributing 88.52% (N3.17 trillion), while foreign investors accounted for 11.48% (N410.62 billion).
Similarly, in 2022, equity trading amounted to N2.32 trillion, with domestic investors contributing 83.68% (N1.95 trillion) and foreign investors contributing 16.32% (N379.23 billion).
The consistent dominance of domestic investors highlights their increasing influence in the Nigerian capital market.
