Federal Government Increases NYSC Allowance to N77,000, Effective July 2024

The Federal Government has officially approved an increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to N77,000, effective from July 2024. This decision was announced by Caroline Embu, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC, following a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission dated September 25, 2024.

Previously, corps members received a monthly allowance of N33,000, a figure that was set after the minimum wage was raised to N30,000 in 2019. The recent adjustment aligns with the signing of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act by President Bola Tinubu on July 29, 2024, which established a new minimum wage of N70,000.

In her statement, Embu noted that Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed, the NYSC Director General, had advocated for enhanced welfare packages for corps members during a visit to the Salaries Commission. She expressed gratitude for the government’s decision, highlighting that the increase will provide significant relief to corps members and boost their morale, motivating them to contribute more effectively to national service.
