Vice President Kashim Shettima has instructed the Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (i-DICE) team to ensure the program begins by the end of November.
Shettima issued the directive during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where the i-DICE team provided updates on its progress.
He emphasized the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to fulfilling its promise of creating millions of jobs in Nigeria’s technology sector. The administration has slated November 2023 for the launch of the $617.7 million i-DICE Investment program.
Shettima stressed the significance of the initiative to the Federal Government’s digital job creation efforts and urged all partners involved in the i-DICE program to use the funds wisely.
He stated that the $617.7 million scheme has the potential to be a game-changer, particularly in addressing the challenges of youth unemployment in the country.
“The unique challenges we face in the country necessitate the creation of jobs for our young people to address the crises associated with youth unemployment,” Shettima said. He called for unity among stakeholders to ensure the program’s launch by the end of November and requested weekly updates on progress.
Shettima also highlighted the importance of spreading the program’s benefits throughout the entire country to ensure inclusivity.
He reassured the technical committee, program personnel, and international partners that they would receive full government support, emphasizing President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the country’s transformation.
“We are serious about this; my boss, President Bola Tinubu, is passionate about transforming this country. So, you can rest assured of the government’s support,” Vice President Shettima concluded.
