A fire outbreak has gutted the radio studio of Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State, destroying equipment and property worth millions of naira.
The incident, which occurred on Monday within the university campus, was reportedly triggered by an electrical surge from the studio’s air-conditioning system. The blaze spread rapidly before firefighters arrived to contain it.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said officers led by PFS 11 Makinde responded swiftly to the distress call.
“When they arrived, the studio was engulfed in flames and smoke. They managed to stop the fire from spreading to other areas. No casualty was recorded, and we were able to save properties worth millions of naira,” Akinwande said.
He advised institutions and the general public to install fire extinguishers and use them promptly to control minor outbreaks before they escalate.
The incident comes just days after a similar fire outbreak gutted the head office of Fresh 105.9 FM in Ibadan on August 16, and weeks after another fire destroyed five shops in the city on July 9, 2025.
Authorities say investigations into the Ajayi Crowther University fire are ongoing.
