Governor Dauda Lawal Hails FCET Gusau as Key to Educational Development in Zamfara State

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has praised the Federal College of Education Technical (FCET) in Gusau as a vital institution in nurturing and producing qualified teachers for public schools across the state. The governor made these remarks during a courtesy visit by the FCET Governing Council to the Government House.

In a statement released on Friday by the governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Idris, the visit was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the collaboration between the state government and FCET Gusau, aimed at improving the educational sector in Zamfara.

Governor Lawal expressed his appreciation for the significant contributions of FCET Gusau to the state’s educational development, noting that five of his own sisters had graduated from the institution.

“I want to start by saying that the people of Zamfara State have greatly benefited from the Federal College of Education Technical Gusau,” Governor Lawal stated. “Considering all the indicators, the state of education in Zamfara has been at the bottom for many years, consistently vying with Yobe State for the last position in the country. Last year, I declared a state of emergency in the educational sector of Zamfara due to these challenges.”

The governor also highlighted the financial difficulties faced by the previous administration, which had failed to pay examination fees for NECO and WAEC for over three years. He confirmed that his administration has since cleared these debts and is committed to improving the state’s educational outcomes.

“Just recently, you may have read in the news about the performance of our students in the NECO entrance examination for gifted students. Our dear state, Zamfara, emerged as the best-performing state in the entire North and the second-best in the whole country,” Lawal added.

Governor Lawal reiterated his administration’s dedication to ensuring that every child in Zamfara has access to quality education. He revealed that the state government is currently renovating and constructing over 290 schools across the state, with a focus on providing suitable furniture and continuous training for teachers.

“In this endeavour, the FCET plays a significant role as we aim to enhance the capacity and quality of our teachers. So, we will work in synergy to revamp the educational system of Zamfara State,” Lawal affirmed.

In response, the Chairman of the FCET Governing Council, Prof. Muhammad Nuhu, commended Governor Lawal for prioritizing education in his administration’s agenda. He acknowledged the historical significance of FCET Gusau and praised the governor’s efforts in declaring an emergency in the state’s educational sector.

“We commend you for your efforts, and we would like to take this opportunity to praise your wife, the First Lady, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda, who sponsored 20 students in the college and awarded three computers to the top three graduating students,” Prof. Nuhu remarked.

The visit underscores the ongoing commitment of both the state government and educational institutions like FCET Gusau to uplift the standard of education in Zamfara, ensuring a brighter future for its youth.
