Housing Advocacy Network Urges REDAN Leadership to Convene Emergency Affordable Housing Summit

The Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN) has issued a call to the recently elected leadership of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) to collaboratively organize an emergency summit focused on affordable housing, addressing the escalating crisis within the sector.

In a statement endorsed by its Executive Director, Festus Adebayo, HDAN emphasized the urgent need for dialogue, citing the prevailing economic uncertainties and diminishing housing supplies across Nigeria. While extending congratulations to the new REDAN officials, with Akintoye Adeoye serving as President, Adebayo underscored that resolving the affordable housing challenge requires a collective effort, as no single entity possesses a definitive solution.

HDAN urged REDAN to utilize its influential industry platform to bring together both state and non-state stakeholders for a summit aimed at establishing consensus on innovative and viable models for affordable housing. Adebayo expressed HDAN’s willingness to contribute its expertise, robust advocacy machinery, and affiliates to facilitate a housing sector dialogue that prioritizes the needs of low and middle-income families in urgent need of decent, affordable shelter.

The housing advocacy network pledged to unveil its agenda in due course, providing guidance for discussions during the proposed housing summit. HDAN also revealed plans to thoroughly assess the achievements of REDAN’s new leadership in terms of measurable progress in expanding access to affordable housing over the next 12 months.

Adebayo emphasized the importance of impactful policies and housing solutions for the majority of Nigerians, urging the new REDAN administration to prioritize such initiatives. He expressed optimism that a multi-stakeholder housing dialogue would foster the high-level collaboration necessary to unlock affordable housing, especially amidst Nigeria’s growing economic challenges.
