NAICOM, NCAA Establish Joint Committee on Aviation Insurance

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) have set up a joint committee to address issues related to aviation insurance.

The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday at the NAICOM office in Abuja, following a visit by the NCAA delegation led by Mrs. Dorcas Rominiyi, the Deputy General Manager for Financial Health & Aviation Insurance.

Dr. Usman Jankara, Deputy Commissioner Technical at NAICOM, who represented the Commissioner for Insurance, Olusegun Omosehin, highlighted that the Commission’s primary responsibility is to regulate the insurance industry and safeguard the interests of policyholders.

The joint committee’s main objective is to ensure the protection of policyholders in the aviation sector. Its terms of reference include verifying the insurance certificates and related documents of airline operators and NCAA service providers, offering technical support to the NCAA on insurance matters, and resolving complaints from airline operators regarding their insurance covers.

Additionally, the committee will coordinate training programs on aviation insurance, organize awareness sessions for NAICOM, NCAA, and other stakeholders, and review the adequacy of minimum insurance cover requirements for aviation operators. Periodic meetings between airline operators, insurance providers, and the regulatory bodies will also be held to discuss and address industry challenges.

Rominiyi, on behalf of the NCAA delegation, expressed her commitment to ensuring the committee’s success, emphasizing that her team would dedicate all efforts to achieving the committee’s objectives and enhancing collaboration between the two agencies.
