The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has called for urgent reforms to Nigeria’s labour laws to address the ongoing issue of casualisation, which involves hiring workers on temporary contracts without the benefits of full employment.
NECA advocates for a legal framework that ensures workers’ rights are protected while maintaining a fair environment for employers.

In an interview, NECA’s Director-General, Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, condemned casualisation, describing it as detrimental to both workers and businesses.
He emphasized the need for a revised and comprehensive labour law that addresses contemporary challenges.
Oyerinde urged the Minister of Labour and Employment to prioritize the passage of the long-awaited national labour law to regulate employment practices effectively.
He noted that the current Nigerian Labour Act has faced criticism for not adequately addressing modern labour issues.
NECA believes that establishing a balanced legal framework will protect workers’ rights without overburdening businesses, fostering a fairer working environment for all Nigerians.
