The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity, and Justice has commended the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for its outstanding performance under the leadership of Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniji, hailing it as the most performing organization in 2023.
The coalition praised CG Adeniji for his sterling and transparent leadership, particularly acknowledging the remarkable achievement of quadrupling the monthly revenue generation of the Nigeria Customs Service since he assumed office. In a joint statement signed by the national coordinator, Comrade James Okoronkwo, and the national secretary, Otunba Olusegun Egbayielo, the coalition expressed appreciation for the diligent efforts of the present NCS leadership in enhancing the ease of doing business in Nigeria. They highlighted the alignment of these efforts with President Bola Tinubu’s campaign to position Nigeria as the most sought-after investment destination in Africa.
The coalition emphasized the role of the Nigeria Customs Service as a catalyst for economic growth and development, leveraging technology and adopting global best practices. They applauded the NCS for achieving its N3.684 trillion revenue target and recognized the record-breaking revenue collected at the Apapa Port under the transparent command of Area Controller Babajide Jaiyeoba. The Apapa Port achieved a historic daily revenue collection of over N11.3 billion on November 22, 2023.
CG Adeniji’s unwavering commitment to the 48-hour clearance of cargo at Nigeria’s ports was also acknowledged by the advocacy group. They attributed this success to the seamless synergy built by the Customs CG with customs agents, government agencies, haulage operators, chandlers, shipping companies, and other stakeholders.
The coalition pledged to collaborate with the Nigeria Customs Service through advocacy to support the achievement of its 2024 revenue target of N5.79 trillion.
