Amina Mohammed, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, has highlighted that Nigeria will need to invest $10 billion annually to meet the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Speaking virtually at the 20th anniversary conference of the MTN Foundation, Mohammed emphasized that achieving the SDGs would require more than just government efforts and called on the private sector to play a key role in supporting development initiatives.
She commended the MTN Foundation for its significant contributions to education, healthcare, and youth empowerment, noting its impact on over 31 million Nigerians through investments in over 50 projects. Mohammed stressed that partnerships between the public and private sectors would be essential to accelerate progress on the SDGs.
MTN Foundation’s acting chairman, Dennis Okoro, also underscored the importance of unlocking private capital to drive sustainable growth in Nigeria, with the Foundation’s investment of over N30 billion as a testament to its commitment to national development.
