Nigerian Army Eliminates Eight Terrorists, Rescues 40 Abductees in Coordinated Operations

The Nigerian Army has announced the successful elimination of eight terrorists and the rescue of 40 abducted individuals in a series of coordinated military operations across the country. The Army, through a post on its official X handle on Monday, revealed that the operations were part of its ongoing efforts to tighten the noose on terrorist activities and dismantle their networks.

In one of the key operations, troops conducted a strategic stop-and-search along the Lafia-Keffi Road in Nasarawa State on September 28. Acting on credible intelligence, they apprehended a notorious firearms courier and recovered a significant cache of 303 live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition concealed in a bag. The suspect was taken into custody, and investigations are underway to track down his accomplices.

Further successes were recorded in Kaduna State, where precision strikes in Birnin Gwari’s forests led to the elimination of one terrorist. Additional engagements in Ankwa village, Kachia Local Government Area, resulted in the deaths of two more terrorists, the recovery of a locally made firearm, ammunition, and a motorcycle.

In Borno State, during a confrontation with fleeing terrorists at Faayijiwa Fandanari village in Magumeri Local Government Area, troops recovered two AK-47 rifles and over 100 rounds of ammunition, alongside other supplies abandoned by the terrorists. Three terrorists were neutralized in a separate operation in Gwoza Local Government Area, while a convoy suspected of transporting supplies to terrorists in Gubio was intercepted, leading to the seizure of three vehicles loaded with food and the recovery of N2,400.

One of the most significant breakthroughs occurred in Kukawa Local Government Area, where 38 hostages—comprising six men, eight women, and 24 children—were rescued from terrorists attempting to relocate them from Cijin village. The terrorists fled upon sighting the troops, abandoning the captives who were later secured by the military.

Additionally, in Yobe State, troops responding to reports of extortion by terrorists in Sasawa village, Damaturu Local Government Area, staged a successful ambush that resulted in the elimination of one terrorist and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and a motorcycle.

The Chief of Army Staff commended the troops for their bravery and relentless efforts in the fight against terrorism. He also expressed gratitude to civilians who have been providing critical information that has aided military operations.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating terrorism and safeguarding the lives of all Nigerians.
