Shell Nigeria Gas Limited has successfully trained and empowered 150 young individuals in Ogun State, focusing on enterprise development and skill acquisition to enhance job creation opportunities in the region.
The beneficiaries, drawn from host communities, participated in a comprehensive five-day Enterprise Development Training Program (EDP) organized by Shell Nigeria Gas. The program aimed to equip youth entrepreneurs in the state with essential entrepreneurship skills, fostering economic growth and sustainability.
Upon completion of the training, the graduates received empowerment support in the form of equipment and start-up capital. The provided resources included welding machines, sewing machines, bakery ovens, hairdressing machines, catering equipment, and other essential tools for their respective ventures.
Ralph Gbobo, the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Gas, underscored the significance of the Enterprise Development Program in nurturing the skills of youths in host communities. He expressed the program’s objective to cultivate a pool of entrepreneurs, stimulate successful business ventures, generate employment opportunities, and elevate income levels within the society.
Represented by Simeon Eze, Assets Manager West Division, Gbobo highlighted the role of the training in ensuring that the youth with promising business ideas or skills are well-equipped for success. He emphasized, “Today’s beneficiaries completed the five-day Enterprise Development Training Program for Shell Nigeria Gas host communities, providing in-depth training for youths with promising business ideas or skills.”
The program aligns with Shell Nigeria Gas’ commitment to empowering the local community by enhancing skills, fostering business acumen, and encouraging successful entrepreneurial ventures. Eze emphasized that thriving businesses contribute to the execution of more social investment initiatives, showcasing the symbiotic relationship between business growth and community development.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Olota of Ota, Oba (Prof) AbdulKabir Obalanlege, commended the program for its potential to create job opportunities, alleviate poverty, and contribute to reducing crime levels in the society. The initiative is seen as a positive step toward sustainable development and empowerment within Ogun State.
