The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved a N119 billion supplementary budget for submission to the state House of Assembly. The budget, which includes inflows from various sources such as NG-CARES, L-Press, Agile, Palliative funds, and Excess Crude Oil, will be presented for legislative approval.
Addressing journalists after the council meeting on Wednesday, Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Balarabe Kadadi, highlighted the importance of the budget, which also includes funds for key infrastructure and development projects in the state.
In addition to the supplementary budget, the council approved N17.9 billion for road reconstruction across the state. This includes N11.8 billion for the reconstruction of the 40.7-kilometer Illela-Gada road and N3.2 billion for the construction of the Wurno-Huchi road. These roads are considered critical to the state’s economy.
State Commissioner of Information, Bello Dabchadi, emphasized that these projects were part of the promises made by Governor Ahmed Aliyu during his local government tours. He also noted that N2.9 billion was allocated for the construction of the Romo Bridge, further enhancing the state’s transportation infrastructure.
In addition to the infrastructure projects, Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Dr. Jabir Maihula, revealed that N156.7 million was approved for the rehabilitation of Sokoto’s oldest Islamiyya school, underscoring the state government’s commitment to education and religious development.
These approvals reflect the government’s continued investment in infrastructure, education, and economic growth across Sokoto State.
