Serving the Western Region

The Lagos Smart Hub will serve the entire western region of Nigeria, bringing Solarcool’s innovative solar-powered cold rooms and freezers to communities in need. Founded in 2021, Solarcool aims to combat food spoilage and ensure food security through sustainable cooling solutions.

Leader in Off-Grid Cooling

Since its inception, Solarcool has secured essential grants and certifications, establishing itself as a leader in the off-grid cooling sector. The company’s products are MANCAP approved and are nearing Verasol certification, reflecting their commitment to quality and reliability.

Strategic Partnerships and Rollouts

In partnership with NEP, Solarcool is implementing phased rollouts of its solutions in select communities. The company is also developing innovative financing solutions to make its products accessible to low-income households, advocating for policy changes and seeking grant connections to promote wider adoption of off-grid solar solutions.

Impact and Job Creation

Solarcool’s ambitious goal is to install and maintain 10,000 solar-powered cooling devices, impacting over 30,000 households. This initiative is expected to create up to 1,000 local jobs, with a focus on empowering women through job opportunities and training programs.

Co-founder Chris Edeh emphasizes the economic benefits of improved food preservation, noting that Solarcool’s pay-as-you-go model removes upfront cost barriers, enabling individuals to enhance their livelihoods. The company aims to reach 50,000 households by 2026 through strategic partnerships with impact investors.
