Residents of Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, were thrown into shock on Sunday following the discovery of three men gruesomely murdered in their apartment on Olateju Street.
The victims, all yet to be identified, were said to be casual workers who earned their living through menial jobs and errands within the community. They reportedly lived together in a makeshift room on the premises of a building in the area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the men were asleep when unknown assailants stormed their room in the early hours of Sunday, August 31. The attackers allegedly dragged them outside before hacking them to death with machetes.
A resident, who gave his name simply as Alfred, told reporters that the victims were discovered in a pool of blood with multiple machete wounds.
“The boys lived in a makeshift structure on the street. They worked as labourers and often helped residents with errands. But on Sunday morning, one of their colleagues raised the alarm after the attack. When people rushed there, the three of them were found lifeless with deep cuts all over their bodies,” Alfred recounted.
Another resident, a member of the Lekki Estate Residents Association who asked not to be named, said the incident threw the neighbourhood into panic.
“We have never witnessed such a violent incident here. The police were quickly called in, and security measures are now being reviewed and tightened,” he said.
Although police authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the killings, community sources suggested the attack may have been linked to cult-related clashes or a personal dispute involving the deceased.
The tragic incident has heightened concerns about security in Lekki Phase 1, a neighbourhood often regarded as one of Lagos’ most secure residential areas.
