President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday held a private working lunch with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris, midway through a 10-day working leave.

Photographs released by the Nigerian State House showed both leaders exchanging a warm handshake before beginning their closed-door meeting. According to officials, Tinubu is spending the second segment of his annual leave between France and the United Kingdom.

The visit marks the President’s seventh trip to Paris since taking office in May 2023 and his first since attending the BRICS Summit in Brazil and the Tokyo International Conference on African Development earlier this year.

In the first nine months of 2025, Tinubu has embarked on 15 international trips to 11 countries, combining state visits, economic summits and bilateral engagements.

His itinerary this year began January 6 with the inauguration of Ghana’s President-elect John Dramani Mahama. He later attended the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Summit in the UAE, the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit in Tanzania, and the 37th African Union Summit in Ethiopia.

Other key stops have included the Vatican for the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV, a state visit to Saint Lucia to address CARICOM leaders, the BRICS Summit in Brazil, and the Tokyo International Conference on African Development in Japan, where he met Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to discuss maritime security and digital infrastructure.

Tinubu has also made multiple working visits to the United Kingdom and France throughout the year, underscoring his administration’s focus on strengthening diplomatic and economic ties.
