Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has earned widespread praise for his leadership in providing free eye surgeries for 1,000 cataract patients in the state. The initiative, which was carried out in collaboration with Senator Ali Ndume, has been hailed as a significant step towards improving the quality of life for those suffering from cataracts, a condition that had left many of them visually impaired for years.
Engr Abdullahi Hashim, a member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria and the Nigerian Society of Engineers, expressed his admiration for Zulum’s humanitarian efforts.
In a statement, Hashim described the initiative as a “laudable endeavor” that has relieved the financial burden on the affected individuals, enabling them to regain their sight without the added worry of expensive medical costs.

“The Borno State Government, under the exemplary leadership of Governor Zulum, has shown a deep commitment to the welfare of its citizens. This initiative not only provides a second chance to those who had been living with poor eyesight but also reflects the government’s genuine concern for the well-being of its people,” said Hashim.
He further emphasized that the partnership between Zulum and Senator Ndume demonstrates a model of inclusive leadership. The effort has brought clear vision and hope to those who had been deprived of it for many years, and it is seen as a crucial step in Borno’s development.
“This humanitarian intervention by Governor Zulum has not only alleviated the suffering of cataract patients but also marked a historic moment in the state’s approach to healthcare. It is a true demonstration of the government’s resolve to improve the lives of its people,” Hashim added.
The operation, which has restored sight to thousands, is a shining example of the positive impact of compassionate leadership and is expected to inspire more humanitarian efforts in the future.
