Police Arrest 23-Year-Old for Alleged Murder of Lover in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Kingsley Chinamezu, popularly known as Power Sharp, for the alleged murder of his 44-year-old lover, Ms. Confidence Sunny, in Etche Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesperson, Superintendent of Police (SP) Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Wednesday. She said the incident occurred on July 30, 2025, at Umuebule community, where Chinamezu allegedly attacked Sunny with a machete, leading to her death.

According to the statement, the suspect fled Rivers State after the incident but continued to issue threats to the victim’s family, claiming he could harm them without facing consequences.

Following a formal complaint from the family, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, directed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) to take over the investigation. Acting on intelligence, operatives of the unit arrested Chinamezu on August 15, 2025, at his hideout in Egbeta village, Edo State.

“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime and provided details of the events leading up to the murder,” SP Iringe-Koko stated.

She added that investigators are compiling evidence while profiling the suspect for possible links to other criminal activities.

CP Adepoju, in his reaction, commended the AKU operatives for their swift response and professionalism in tracking down the suspect. He assured residents of the state that Rivers would not serve as a safe haven for criminals.

“Perpetrators of heinous crimes should desist, as the law will eventually catch up with them and they will face its full wrath,” Adepoju warned.

The police said the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue.
